In Nov 2024, the NITI Aayog recommends including coking coal in India's critical minerals list due to its essential role in steel production and infrastructure development. Despite holding 16.5 billion tonnes of medium coking coal reserves, India imports 85% of its needs, costing ₹1.5 lakh crore in FY 2023-24.

The Association of Indian American Minorities (AIAM), a newly launched non-governmental organization, was inaugurated on November 22, 2024, in Maryland, USA. During the launch event, PM Modi was honored in absentia with the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Global Peace Award for Minority Upliftment.
