Justice KS Puttaswamy, the petitioner in the landmark right to privacy case, passed away at the age of 98. In 2012, Justice Puttaswamy moved the Supreme Court against the Aadhaar scheme introduced by the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre. Finally, on August 24, 2017, a nine-judge Constitution bench led by then Chief Justice JS Khehar upheld the Aadhaar scheme but unanimously recognized privacy as a fundamental right.
